Sonia Gandhi would not be our prime minister because she is born in a foreign land. But she at least speaks fluent Italian. And how do we explain the sons of our own land who flounder in speaking 10 consecutive sentences in hindi !!
A classic from Rajiv Gandhi's speeches in the doordarshan era
"chahe hum jeete ya loosein..."
Guess what Advani and family would have made of this opportunity today :)))

Hi, nicely said... nd gud observation... i think Hindin is underratted by indians only.... if one will analyse he can find that Hindi is really mighty sophisticated language that English.. i dont know anyother language than Hindi and English but as English is considered as international language and indians feel proud speaking English i can say that if it is far better than English in almost every aspects.the foremost thing which i like about this language is its words. it cud be probably ranked as No. 1

Well to speak the truth, I like english as a language and I would admit that I am not competent enough to make a comparison between the two since I have only a working knowledge of spoken and written forms of both these languages. But from that much knowledge I can't conclude that Hindi is a better language than English, of course not worse.
Through this post I meant that it's unfortunate that we as Indians find it shameful to speak Hindi at large and tend to use English even with our spouse in social places and astonishingly at home. I used spouse as an example here because with children many of the people would defend themselves by saying that children would better pick up a foreign language if they use it.
